The Stena Vinga is a RoPax ferry of the Stena Line in the Kattegat . Until 2018, the ship was used as a Hammerodde in traffic to the island of Bornholm .

history

Hammerodde (2005-2018)

Ro-ro stern before the conversion
After the renovation

The Dutch shipyard Merwede BV in Hardinxveld-Giessendam built the RoPax ferry according to a successful design by the former shipbuilding company Van der Giessen-De Noord and delivered the ship to the then client Bornholmstrafikken on April 20, 2005 after a construction period of only eleven months . The ship was put into service as the Hammerodde , named after the northern tip of Bornholm, under the Danish flag and with home port Rønne . Until September 1, 2018, the ferry alternated between Rønne and the ports of Ystad , Køge and Sassnitz .

BornholmerFærgen lost the new tender for the transport contract for the operation of the ferry connections to Bornholm to Molslinjen in 2017 . The Hammerrodde was then sold for around 22 million euros to Stena RoRo, like Stena Line, a company of the Swedish Stena Group, and chartered back until September 2018 in order to fulfill the ongoing transport contract. It was replaced by the Hammershus on the connections to Bornholm .

Furnishing

The design is optimized for the all-weather transport of trucks , buses , passenger cars and their passengers between relatively small ports. At the beginning of 2010, the Hammerodde at STX Europe in Helsinki received an additional loading deck and a relaxation room for passengers. As a Hammerodde , the ship had the following deck layout:

  • Deck 3: Lower vehicle deck with 645 loading meters, accessible via an 11.50 meter wide stern ramp.
  • Deck 5: Upper vehicle deck, accessible from deck 3 via a pull-up ramp. This deck was expanded in winter 2010 to include an additional loading deck for semi-trailers .
  • Deck 7: Bistro with 50 seats, reception, duty-free shop and lounges with a total of 256 loungers
  • Deck 8 and 9: 20 single cabins, 36 double cabins and 4 four-bed cabins, each with its own bathroom . During the renovation at the beginning of 2010, a relaxation room with a new type of bunk system was added on deck 8.

Stena Vinga (since 2018)

On September 2, 2018, the ship arrived at a shipyard in Landskrona , where it was renamed Stena Vinga and the flag was changed to Sweden . After some renovations and a new paint job, the ship has been in service between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn since September 15, 2018 , replacing the Stena Gothica .

Sister ship

The sister ship Dueodde was built under subcontract from the Volharding Shipyard in Harlingen and delivered a week later.
