The district of Wunsiedel, Kulmbach is a district for the Bavarian state elections in the constituency of Upper Franconia . It includes the district of Kulmbach , the district of Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge and, from the district of Bayreuth, the cities of Bad Berneck in the Fichtelgebirge and Gefrees and the communities of Bischofsgrün , Fichtelberg and Mehlmeisel .

The constituency was newly formed by a resolution of the state parliament in 2011 and used for the first time in the 2013 state election . It emerged from most of the previous electoral districts of Kulmbach and Wunsiedel in the Fichtel Mountains . The amalgamation became necessary due to the reduction of the electoral districts in Upper Franconia from nine to eight. However, this was sharply criticized, so that the districts of Kulmbach and Wunsiedel and the Bavarian Greens complained against it. The Bavarian Constitutional Court rejected the complaint, however, so that the classification for the upcoming election is valid for the first time. Because of its geographical shape, the district is popularly referred to as the dog bone .
