Strechau is a place at the western end of the Paltental in the town of Rottenmann , belongs to the Rottenmann cadastral community and has 154 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016). Oppenberg Straße , which also begins in Strechau, goes through the village .

Strechau Castle is to the west of the village . Strechau is located on the Strechenbach , which flows into the Palten in the immediate vicinity of the Strechau-West industrial park . In the course of time, Strechau has grown together with the place Klamm , which means that there is no longer any border between the two places.

The Ameisbichler and Thalhof farms to the east also belong to Strechau . In 2015, a climbing route of the same name of difficulty B / C was built on the Burgfels below Strechau Castle.

history

The earliest written document is from 1080 and is "Strechowe". The name goes back to Old Slavic strecha (hostel, accommodation) and Middle High German ouwe (floodplain). The field name was transferred to the stream and the settlement.
