Sydney Anicetus Charles

Sydney Anicetus Charles CBE (born April 17, 1926 in St. Joseph (Trinidad and Tobago) , † September 4, 2018 ) was Bishop of Saint George's in Grenada .

Life

Sydney Anicetus Charles attended high school (St. Mary's College) in Port of Spain . After the exams ( A-Levels ) in 1944 he worked in Tunapuna in the local office of the British colonial administration. In 1947 he joined the Benedictine Abbey of Mount St. Benedict in Tunapuna a seminary of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain and studied philosophy and theology . He was ordained a priest on March 7, 1954 .

From 1954 to 1960 Sydney Charles was chaplain in San Juan , Arima and Chaguanas . From 1960 to 1971 he was pastor in Carapichaima and Arima. Archbishop Gordon Anthony Pantin CSSp appointed him Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Port of Spain in 1971 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him bishop of Saint George's in Grenada on November 18, 1974 . Archbishop Gordon Anthony Pantin donated him episcopal ordination on January 26, 1975 ; Co- consecrators were Patrick Webster OSB , Archbishop of Castries , and Benedict Singh , Bishop of Georgetown .

On July 10, 2002, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Sydney Anicetus Charles died on September 4, 2018. He was buried in the crypt of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Saint George's.
