Tényő (German: Tennendorf ) is a Hungarian municipality in Győr-Moson-Sopron County on the southeastern edge of the Kisalföld and is 18 km south of Győr .

location

On the south-eastern edge of the Kisalföld Small Plain , the last northern branch of the Bakony - Sokorói-dombság - stretches out, a hill country with loess and sandy soil. Tényő is located in the valley between the Ravazd -Csanaker and the Sokoró hill.

The settlement structure of Tényő seems to be completely disordered. In the past, the inhabitants built their houses in small valleys between the hills. Nowadays people mostly build in the hollow. One part of the village is a completely new settlement, but the original core of the community has preserved the beautiful traditional monuments.

Tényő can be reached from the 83rd main street (Győr - Pápa ) via a side street.

history

The place belonged to the possession of the Pannonhalma Abbey , its name is mentioned for the first time on the occasion of a royal place registration as Soccoru , later as Socru . Viticulture was of great importance in the life of the population. The Burgundy (wine) growing on Várhegy is the type of grape that gave rise to the famous Tényő red wine , which won a gold medal at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris . The home is at 18 Kétsor Street . Folk houses with thatched roofs can also be seen in several streets in the area. The forests belong to the landscape protection area Pannonhalma .

Its facade was provided with a tower. Its nave with a flat ceiling is separated from the narrow choir by a triumphal arch. The main and side altars are neo-Gothic in style. Next to the church there is a baroque monument made of sandstone on the left and a stone cross on the right.

  • Folk houses

In the valleys between the hills towards the Raab there are villages, mountain communities and populated vineyards. The most beautiful examples of the “Kisalfölder Hausgebiet” architectural style can be seen in the area around Sokoró. The building materials are less decisive for the style, but rather the layout, firing systems, fireplace. Such three-part houses were built from the 17th century onwards, and they have the following peculiarities: central entrance, open fireplace, closed combustion system, scissor-shaped roof structure.

Folk houses with thatched roofs can still be seen in the following streets:

  • Dombstraße 13.
  • Hentesstrasse 8.
