Eugene Marquis "TY" Hilton (born November 14, 1989 in Miami , Florida ) is an American American football player in the position of wide receiver and punt returner . He played college football at Florida International University (FIU). Since 2012 he has been active in the National Football League (NFL) for the Indianapolis Colts , who selected him in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft .

Early years

Hilton attended Miami Springs High School and played football and basketball for the Miami Springs Golden Hawks . As a senior, he was nominated to the All-Star Team for his performance in both sports. As a wide receiver, he caught passes for 785 yards and 16 touchdowns . He also scored four touchdowns as a kick returner. Hilton has received scholarship offers from the University of Mississippi , West Virginia University , the University of Florida, and Florida International University (FIU). The decision for the FIU was finally made on the evening before "National Signing Day" when he left the decision to his son.

He was a starter for the FIU Panthers throughout his college career . In his first game in 2008 he ran a punt for a touchdown back into the opposing end zone . In his rookie season, he scored twelve touchdowns in five different ways: seven caught touchdown passes, 2 runaways , one TD pass, a punt return and a kick return touchdown. As a sophomore, he gained a total of 1,301 yards of space, which he almost doubled as a junior (2,098). In four seasons for the Panthers he set several school records, e.g. B. Most Passes Caught (229), Yards Caught (3,531), Touchdowns Caught (24).

Indianapolis Colts

In the 2012 NFL Draft , Hilton was selected in the third round as the 92nd player by the Indianapolis Colts . He signed a rookie contract for four years and 2.6 million US dollars . He was mainly set up as a slot receiver and return specialist in his first season, catching passes for 861 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2013 he was initially listed as the third receiver behind Reggie Wayne and Darrius Heyward-Bey , but Wayne was out for most of the season due to a cruciate ligament injury and Heyward-Bey remained inconspicuous, making Hilton the most important pass recipient for Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has been. In the play-offs he caught 13 passes for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs , setting Colts franchise records. In 2013 and 2014 he broke the 1000-yard mark with pass catches and was nominated for the Pro Bowl for the first time on December 23, 2014 .

On August 13, 2015, Hilton signed a five-year, $ 65 million contract extension.

Hilton was born as Eugene Marquis. Since his childhood he has only been called TY, after the first two letters of his father's name (Tyrone).
