Tabaluga or the journey to reason is a 1983 studio album by Peter Maffay. The album is a kind of musical for children, on which narrated passages and songs alternate.
action
When the little dragon Tabaluga does not listen to his father Tyrion's morning admonitions, Tyrion sends him on a journey, as has always been the custom with dragons. Tabaluga should seek reason, which is not easy to recognize, and rely on "the force that moves everything, the imagination".
On his journey Tabaluga meets the moon that makes time, a queen ant who relies on unconditional work and order, the giant Grynkolos and the tree of life. The fire salamander Pyromella notes that the two do not match; but if they can't be friends, at least they don't want to be enemies. This also shows him the tadpole school with the motto “Become a frog, but don't be a frog”. Finally, the stork Arafron tips Tabaluga to interview the two-hundred-year-old sea turtle Nessaja and brings him to her. On the way he observes a group of dolphins that are simply enjoying their existence. At the end of his trip, Nessaja tells him that she never wanted to grow up and that deep down she has remained a child.

success
Maffay had signed with the small company Metronome Records because his friend Klaus Ebert was in the executive suite there. But when the Polygram group acquired the label and Ebert had to leave, Maffay wanted to terminate his record deal. Since this was not contractually possible, he recorded this pure concept record. But instead of releasing him from the contract for this reason , Polygram published Tabaluga or the journey to reason . Das Rockmärchen became his most successful publication to date.
The album reached 2nd place in the German music charts . It stayed on the charts for 40 weeks. In Switzerland it came in 29th place. There was a total of one platinum record ( ) for 500,000 copies sold and three gold records (
). The song Nessaja , which came 17th in the German single charts, was released.
