In 2011 Peter Maffay recorded another version for their album 23 together with Bushido and Sido under the title Being Grown up. This version was able to place itself at number 29 in the single charts in Germany and Austria.

background

At the suggestion of Bushido, who had already had a successful collaboration with the pop singer Karel Gott under the title Forever Young, Sido and Bushido had already planned to set a song from Maffay's Tabaluga musical to work on 23. After the rappers had tried various other versions, Bushido asks Maffay personally about a collaboration for being an adult , which the singer immediately agreed to. Growing up was originally intended to be a heavily advertised single. However, before such appearances on television shows such as Schlag den Raab could come, the collaboration between Maffay and Bushido & Sido came to a standstill.

In autumn 2011 Bushido was awarded the Bambi in the Integration category. This award was heavily criticized from various sides because of the content of earlier texts by Bushido. As a result, the pop singer Heino returned the Bambi he had been awarded in 1990. Maffay, who had presented Bushido with the award as laudator , initially sided with him in the public discussion and appealed to society that Bushido deserved a "second chance" from it.

A little later, Bushido, Maffay and Sido were guests in an edition of the ZDF show Markus Lanz , which was due to a heated discussion between the guests with Lanz and the cabaret artist Gabi Decker, who was also present as a guest, about Bushido's and Sido's musical past and the portrayal of violence in the music video her previously released single So I do it attracted increased media attention. A week later, Maffay ended the collaboration with the two rappers, because according to his statements, Bushido in particular did not want to do without publications of this kind in the future.

content

The sung by Peter Maffay chorus of the original song Nessaja is in his adult supplemented by one each rapped verse Bushido and Sido, in which both each explain that one should not lose in aging its youthfulness.

production

In addition to Bushido and Sido, the producers Beatzarre and Djorkaeff were responsible for the production of the song . The melody of the song was recorded by the Breslau Orchestra, conducted by Joris Bartsch-Buhle. The song was recorded in Copenhagen .

Music video

The completely black and white music video for being grown up shows Bushido in front of burning garbage cans, Maffay on a ship and Sido in a backyard, whose wall is written with the text of his verse, reciting their respective contributions to the song. None of the three protagonists meet during the video, but at the end of the video Bushido and Sido are shown together on a split screen .

The video has been viewed over 19 million times on YouTube to date (as of May 2017).

Commercial win

Growing up was able to place himself in the singles charts in Germany as well as in Austria at number 29. In Germany the title stayed in the charts for a total of 8 weeks, in Austria for 6 weeks.
