Location in the city of Trier

Tarforst is a district of Trier with about 6,700 inhabitants, consisting of the place Tarforst (Alt-Tarforst), which has retained its village character to this day, and the new development area Trimmelter Hof on the so-called Tarforster Höhe below the older village.

location

Tarforst is located on the Petrisberg plateau above Trier city center and, together with Filsch , Kernscheid and Irsch, belongs to the high-altitude districts. The University of Trier is located adjacent to Neu-Kürenz and Olewig . The new Trimmelter Hof development area (from Latin tremuletum "Espenwald"), which is separated from Tarforst by the Coal Road, belongs to Tarforst. The Tarforster Höhe shopping center is also located there . In the far east of the district is the Naumeter head near the Schellberg .

The Trimmelter Hof riding facility in the Olewig district of Trier is named with the same name as the new development area above it .

history

Maximiner Hof and Catholic parish church

Tarforst and its surroundings are ancient historical soil. The archaeological finds that came to light during excavations are assigned to earlier Roman settlements. The name “Tarforst” also points to Roman times : Centarburs (Latin: “one hundred trees”). The center of the village was the tithing house of the St. Maximin Abbey , and around this manor the village expanded over time. The oldest building in Tarforst is the Maximiner Hof from 1586.

In 1933 Tarforst had 458 inhabitants. On June 7, 1969, the old district was incorporated into the city of Trier as part of a municipal territorial reform; at that time Tarforst had 630 inhabitants. Tarforst recorded a rapid increase in the number of inhabitants since the 1970s, when the community became the new location of the University of Trier ; within fifty years the population has increased eleven times. The campus area and adjoining student residences have been expanded several times since then. In the 1980s and the end of the 1990s, the new housing estates at Trimmelter Berg and Trimmelter Hof as well as the Tarforster Höhe were built .
