Targa Florio 1932
The 23rd Targa Florio , also XXIII Targa Florio , in Sicily was a circuit race over eight laps with a total distance of 576 kilometers on the Piccolo circuito delle Madonie . It was held on closed, otherwise public roads and took place on May 8, 1932.
The race
In 1932 the founder of the Targa Florio, Vincenzo Florio , changed the route significantly. The classic round of the Piccola Madonie was created by shortening the previous route . The route led counter-clockwise from the launch site in Cerda in the west, past the 500 meters high Caltavuturo in the south, down into the valley, in which a motorway runs today, mountain roads over 600 meters high, in a hairpin through Collesano in the east, down to the east Campofelice di Roccella , from where the carriages drove along the Buonfornello straight along the sea. One lap was 72 km and was completed eight times, with the vehicles being started individually every 20 seconds. With a few exceptions, this route was used until 1977 , when the last Targa was held.
In 1932 Tazio Nuvolari won clearly; he led the race from the start and won with a lead of six minutes on his team-mate Baconin Borzacchini . The lap at the average speed of 79,296 km / h should have lasted 20 years. It was not until 1952 that Felice Bonetto surpassed this mark on a Lancia Aurelia B20 .
