occupation

On my own account is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution was produced by Maran Film on behalf of Südwestrundfunk under the direction of Elmar Fischer and first broadcast on August 17, 2008 on Das Erste . It is the 702nd episode in the series and the second case of the Stuttgart investigative team Lannert and Bootz . This time the commissioners have to investigate in the ranks of the police in order to clarify the background of a police access in which there is also a police officer among the four victims.

action

Jürgen Wolf, Sven Wippermann and Frank Jarmer, three investigators in the drug search, found out the whereabouts of a drug dealer they had been looking for for a long time through a tip. When they storm the hotel room, the action gets completely out of hand and four people die in the subsequent exchange of fire. The chief detective Lannert and Bootz are called to clear up the incident, because one of the four was the policeman Frank Jarmer. After Dieter Mendt from the LKA appears at the crime scene, it turns out that one of the dead was also an undercover agent . Mendt is extremely upset that the three drug investigators have made the access without prior consultation. For Lannert and Bootz there are some open points and also contradictions. It is quite conceivable that the three officers were doing their own thing and trying to embezzle the drug money in the hotel room. Bootz thinks this assumption is nonsense, because he knows both Jürgen Wolf and Sven Wippermann very well and knows that they are passionate police officers.

By evaluating the cell phone calls made by Wolf and Wippermann, Bootz comes into contact with the drug dealer Carmen Benze. He learns from her that she works for Wippermann as an informant and that she had told him about the planned drug deal. But he also found out that Dieter Mendt is being supplied with information by the heavily drug-addicted Benze. So it is quite possible that he wanted to embezzle the drug money and that the drug investigators got in his way. This assumption is reinforced and the investigators manage to prove money embezzlement by means of various witnesses from the drug milieu Mendt.

During their research to fully clarify the incident in the hotel room, Lannert and Bootz learn from Carmen Benze that Mendt had them in hand after a drug was found. Actually, he did not want to hand her over to the judiciary because she was supposed to provide him with information, but after she learned that he would not keep his word, she had briefly informed Wippermann in the hope that this operation would uncover Mendt's illegal business . During their investigations, however, the commissioners also found that Jürgen Wolf never intended to arrest the drug dealer, but that it was planned to liquidate him from the start. Together with his two colleagues, he had started to take the law more and more into their own hands for some time, as he lacked the necessary success in a proper police procedure. So Lannert and Bootz have no choice but to arrest Wolf for double manslaughter, abuse of office and obstruction of punishment in office . But the situation escalates and Wolf takes Bootz hostage to demand safe conduct. In order to help his colleague, Lannert also voluntarily and unarmed goes into Wolf's hands and can convince him that his request cannot be crowned with success, since the building is surrounded by snipers. So Wolf gives up and lets himself be led away without resistance.

Reviews

At Stern.de , Kathrin Buchner evaluates: "The second 'Tatort' episode with Stuttgart's Lannert and Bootz is not as rowdy as it seems, but a fine consideration of the difference between law and justice." And she states: “The 'crime scene' impressively shows how it happens that the drug investigators Wippermann and Wolf practice vigilante justice, why they can no longer stand the fine line between law and justice, how they abuse their office not out of greed but out of idealism, as they do guaranteed not to execute innocent victims properly. "

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv writes about this “crime scene”: “A complex case, a complicated scenario. 'In your own right' always comes up with new premises. And since the viewer is not an eyewitness to the fatal exchange of fire at the beginning, he receives the different variants vividly and bloodyly. Even when the commissioners analyze the process, the bloodbath is shown again. This may be due to the need for action and the adrenaline rush, but above all these scenes allow the viewer to actively participate in the film. Where names are juggled in other thrillers, in this 'crime scene' you are always at eye level with the investigators. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm praise the “no frills, straightforward crime thriller” and say: At last a “crime thriller without private affairs, foolishness and educational mandate. OK then."
