Schmutzarbeit is a television film from the crime series Tatort on ARD and ORF . The film was produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk under the direction of Werner Masten and first broadcast on February 19, 1989. It is the crime scene episode 216. For the chief detective Paul Stoever ( Manfred Krug ) it is the 10th case. For his colleague Peter Brockmöller ( Charles Brauer ) it is the 7th case in which he is investigating.

action

Ulf Thorning, pilot of a small cargo charter plane, wants to fight a fire that has broken out on board. He has to find out that the fire extinguisher is not working and when he tries to get the load out of the fire area, he finds only bricks in the boxes. Obviously someone planned his crash to get him out of the way. Desperate, he sends a 911 call before crashing into British territory. Fishermen manage to pull the pilot out of the water alive.

As a precautionary measure, Ulf Thorning had given his brother information about the criminal backers for whom he had smuggled arms out of ignorance. This is not hidden from the criminal organization and wants the professional killer Jorek to be put on Professor Thorning when he is about to give a lecture in Hamburg. Jorek will be informed about his next assignment and will be provided with the necessary work and information material by Horst Simmath.

Meanwhile, Stoever and Brockmöller are busy solving a murder case. Katja Nodorp was found shot dead in her apartment. From her brother, they learn from Katja's boyfriend, Horst Simmath, who is said to be quite jealous and irascible. While the survey was still in progress, Stoever received an anonymous call. The participant in a conference of the Alfred Bergmann Foundation is to be killed. Stoever stimulates the possibility of preventing a murder and not, as usual, of only being called when everything is too late. So he wants to take care of this matter. He discusses the problem with the conference leader Doris Eucken. She immediately thinks of the journalist who had asked conspicuously about the conference members the day before. Thanks to the attention of Doris Eucken, whom Jorek recognizes when he visits the conference venue again, Stoever succeeds in following his trail and locating his hotel. He puts Meyer Zwo on Jorek, who then observes him.

Brockmöller is now researching the victim's bank movements and can determine regular cash deposits from Simmath. Since he had testified that his relationship with the victim had ended months ago, Simmath moves into the focus of his investigation. He first researched Robert Vidal, his boatswain, who had given him an alibi for the time of the crime. Brockmöller finds files in the archive according to which he was involved in the arms trade in the past. During the search of Simmath's ship, the investigators find boxes of machine guns. When they wanted to question Simmath, he disappeared. According to his wife, he was on a business trip and, in her opinion, far too cowardly for a murder. Stoever is certain that she was the anonymous caller.

While monitoring Jorek, Meyer observes Zwo as he meets Simmath and then drives to the airport. There he fakes his departure so that the surveillance is stopped. In this way, Jorek can unnoticed lure Professor Thorning to him, to whom he sends a letter, according to which his brother supposedly wants to meet him. However, the conference leader suspects. She follows Thorning, but is late. Jorek has already shot him and is going back to Paris to do his job.

Stoever and Brockmöller can track down Simmath. During interrogation, he initially denied having killed his girlfriend. After Meyer Zwo recognized him and he was linked to the murder attack on Thorning, he confessed. Simmath had hoped to be able to sign the murder of his girlfriend Jorek, since he had passed on the murder weapon for his assignment to him.

At his own request, pilot Ulf Thorning had left the clinic where he was being treated and set out for Germany. But since he is late and can no longer save his brother, he cooperates with the police. Stoever is pleased to finally have someone who can inform him about the connections between the arms smuggling from Simmath and the man behind him, Bast.
