Frank Straass

Hans Herbert Baumann , pseudonym: Frank Straass (born December 16, 1924 in Emmendingen ) is a German journalist , writer , actor , radio play and voice actor .

education

Straass completed an apprenticeship as a foreign trade clerk. He then took acting lessons in Villingen and Mannheim . Initially, however, he worked as a radio operator in the Navy and from 1948 in the mine clearance service.

theatre

In the same year he also appeared as an actor at the Theater der Jugend of the Südwest Badische Volksbühne Mannheim. In the years that followed, Straass played at various stages such as theater 53 in Hamburg, the Hamburg Art Theater , and at the Theater im Zimmer . From 1963 to 1971 he was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus , and in the following season at the Hamburg State Opera . Theater guest performances have taken Straass to the New Theater of Youth in Mannheim, the Stadttheater Lüneburg, the Landesbühne Schleswig-Holstein, the Schauspiel Cuxhaven, the Nordmark-Landestheater Schleswig and the Theater am Niederrhein in Cleve. For many years Straass was part of the permanent ensemble of the Altonaer Theater in Hamburg, where he worked in many roles as an actor and also as a director.

In addition to his stage work, Straass took on more and more roles in film and television productions. He played in crime films such as the Edgar Wallace adaptations The Riddle of the Red Orchid and The Inn on the Thames as well as the Jerry Cotton thrillers Shots from the Violin Case and The Brooklyn Murderer's Club , TV games such as Egon Monks One Day - Report from a German Concentration camp and Wolfgang Staudte's The Captain Behrens case , but also in various Scandinavian productions such as the Norwegian-Swedish crime series Röd snö . As a voice actor, he lent his voice to Edward Asner and Ford Rainey in his recurring role in the sitcom King of Queens .
