Fear of death is a television film from the crime series Tatort by ARD , ORF and SRF . The film was produced by MDR under the direction of Miko Zeuschner and first broadcast on May 23, 1999. It is the crime scene episode 413. For detective chief Bruno Ehrlicher and his colleague Kain it is the 19th case in which they are investigating in Dresden .

action

Commissioner Bruno Ehrlicher is on the way to the Dresden market square with his family. There he is made an honorary citizen of the city by the mayor. The eight-year-old daughter of his son's friend is full of pride and admires the medal that her “grandpa” has received. At the moment Ehrlicher is often taking care of Lina and one day has to watch helplessly as the girl is kidnapped on the street. Despite an immediate search, the kidnapper cannot be found. He takes the child to a hiding place and lets them paint pictures of their grandpa there.

Ehrlicher and Kain start the investigation, full of concern for the girl. They want to question Roger Kampe, Lina's biological father, whom Lina's mother considers capable of such an act. When the police officers arrive, he runs away and injures himself so that he has to be taken to a hospital. He is then transferred to custody.

In addition to Ehrlicher, Chief Inspector Steiner is investigating the case that kidnappings take place in her resort. When Lina's mother visits, she notices a child's drawing that clearly depicts a police officer and one of the details on it very closely resembles an erect limb. Without knowing it, Ehrlicher is now suspected of having done something to the child. Accordingly, Steiner finds various clues that burden Ehrlicher. Starting with nonexistent witnesses of the kidnapping, the nonexistent license plate number of the kidnapping vehicle, to an allegedly too loving treatment of the girl. This goes so far that even Ehrlicher's son Tommy is accused of being behind the kidnapping to protect his father.

After Ehrlicher is suspended from duty, he realizes that someone wants revenge on him. He tries to look into old cases, but is also banned from entering the police station. So Kain keeps him up to date and finally finds a suspect: Killian Schubeck, who works as a temporary worker in Tommy Ehrlicher's bar. Ten years ago he was mistakenly suspected in a similar kidnapping case. His real name is Michael Niedecker. The commissioners arrive just in time to save Lina, who is about to drown Schubeck in Ehrlicher’s car in the Elbe, which he had stolen before the kidnapping and which now wanted to make it look as if the commissioner was actually the culprit.
