The chief inspectors Ehrlicher and Kain are fictional characters in the ARD crime series Tatort . From 1992 to 2007 they formed the MDR's investigative team in 45 episodes . After 21 cases in Dresden , they moved to Leipzig in 2000 . Peter Sodann and Bernd Michael Lade played these leading roles. The Ehrlicher character also appeared in the children's series Krimi.de .
background
Peter Sodann and Bernd-Michael Lade formed the first East German Tatort team, the production was incumbent on the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk . In the first two films, which were still produced by German television , Gustl Bayrhammer was reactivated as Veigl, who took over the management of the office. Veigl already investigated in Munich in the 1970s.
After 21 films, the team moved from Dresden to Leipzig in 2000.
A special feature of the “Leipziger Tatort” were the co-productions of the MDR with the WDR . In 2000 the episode Quartet was broadcast in Leipzig and in 2002 the episode return match , in which the Leipzig commissioners investigated together with their Cologne colleagues Ballauf and Schenk ( Klaus J. Behrendt and Dietmar Bär ).
In the course of Peter Sodann's candidacy for the election of the German Federal President in 2009 , the ARD broadcasters did not broadcast any Tatort episodes with Ehrlicher and Kain in order not to influence the election.
From 2005 to 2007 the figure of Bruno Ehrlicher was also featured in the KiKA series Krimi.de . There he supports a group of young people in solving criminal cases.
characters
Bruno Ehrlicher
Chief Inspector Ehrlicher, played by Peter Sodann , was born in the mid-1940s and has been with the Dresden Criminal Police for over 30 years. He solves the most complicated cases with a precise talent for combination, his own style and objective understanding. Due to his small and inconspicuous appearance, he is often underestimated by the suspects and rarely has to use his service weapon. He is very much appreciated in the district, even if he is sometimes quite grumpy. At the bottom of his heart, however, he is a good-natured and sensitive philanthropist. He is an absolute head person and seldom disturbed, but also a loner and individualist, which always makes the partnership with Cain a little difficult. Nevertheless, they complement each other well and he knows that he has great talent at his side.
Since the episode Die Reise in den Tod he has been a widower and lives in his parents' house in Dresden until he is transferred to Leipzig. His son Tommi runs a pub there in the basement. So he can often enjoy a beer here after work. He likes to mumble to himself and philosophize about the injustice of the world to which he owes his official position. With the move to Leipzig, Frederike's wash café becomes a regular meeting point to talk shop with Kain.
Bruno Ehrlicher's trademark is the recurring briefcase.
Cain
Chief Inspector Kain, played by Bernd Michael Lade , never really wanted to become a police officer. It was more by chance that he ended up with the police and when he enjoyed the work, he stayed with it. Born in the mid-1960s, he brings a youthful curiosity and spontaneity to the team of two. He is the younger of the two inspectors, impetuous, sometimes provocative and does not like boring and old-fashioned criminal investigation. He's the unconventional guy with spontaneous ideas. However, this is good for successfully clearing up the cases, even if working with Ehrlicher is not always easy. Cain knows how to deal with it and values his older colleague.
No first name was officially known for the character Cain. As a result, pawn he was called "Franky", an information site on ARD temporarily assigned him the name "John" to. In the episode "Waidmanns Heil" Ehrlicher reads his first name on a form and is amused to see that he rhymes with something. In the last episode, you could see an "M." as a first name abbreviation on the door sign of the office.

reception
At Welt.de you can read: “Sodanns Ehrlicher was a striking figure of the transition, in which many East Germans wanted to recognize themselves and who was also acceptable to the West because of their sometimes very exposed integrity and as a" zone columbo ". In almost every episode the inspector winced at some point, because some had everything and others had so little, because the rich owned the nicer houses, but always the dirtier souls. This world-improving and illusion-free attitude was not ironicized by the fact that Ehrlicher had a more supple counterpart (in the figure of Cain) added. "
Peter Sodann was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Reinhard Höppner, the former Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt. In his opinion, he would turn the big wheel with the figure of Ehrlicher: "The work you do in the 'Tatort' is an important building block for our German unity."
There is an assessment of the figure of the honest from Sodann himself, he says: “I am firmly convinced that I contribute a lot to friendly cooperation. I can tell by the reaction of the audience to my role as "Tatort" commissioner Ehrlicher. Most from the West say that I would help them understand the East better, and those in the East say that I would represent them a little. "
In a poll published in 2008, Ehrlicher and Kain were the most popular investigative team in eastern Germany, where they were elected by 34%, while Schimanski and Thanner won in the west .
