occupation

Das Gespenst is a television film produced by NDR from the crime series Tatort with the chief detective of the State Criminal Police Office of Lower Saxony Charlotte Lindholm . The first broadcast on German and Austrian television took place on March 15, 2009.

Lindholm's 14th case confronts the investigator with her own past. She has to convict her best friend of the murder of a police officer and fights against the constitution protection, which wants to prevent an assassination attempt, in whose preparation her friend is involved.

action

A car is absolutely prohibited from parking in the parking lot of Langenhagen Airport in Hanover. The attentive police officer Karl Hegemann asks the driver for the vehicle documents. Since she does not have this with her, he starts a vehicle owner query to the headquarters. But she doesn't want to be recognized at any cost and shoots the policeman.

When Charlotte Lindholm is called to the scene, she finds that an unknown 'official' has erased all the tapes on the surveillance cameras. Nevertheless, she manages to get a short blurred scene with the alleged perpetrator via a video of an airfield visitor. To her surprise, she recognizes her old friend Manu, whom she has lost sight of for years. She succeeds in locating and arresting Manuela Seehausen, but the case is taken over by Lower Saxony's constitutional protection agency and Manu is taken away. However, one of the intelligence agencies is recognized by a policewoman as the man who deleted the airport videos. All of the day's investigation results are classified as classified. When Manuela was released a short time later by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution due to a lack of evidence, Lindholm was completely confused, but also angry. She absolutely wants to clear up this case, also for herself. After all, they had many borderline adventures together in their wild youth, then they parted ways, and Manu continued on the path of the rebel woman. She studied medicine and then went to Africa with an aid organization to do something against the misery in these countries.

Lindholm is researching the airport's passenger lists and comes across a passenger from Africa who has arrived in Hanover accompanied by three other black Africans. There are some indications that this is the unloved dictator Kibala and that an assassination attempt may be carried out on him here in Germany, which explains the interests of the constitution protection for Lindholm. Using old publications on the Internet, she finds out that Manuela was kidnapped in the Congo and then ransomed by the Foreign Office . On a photo she recognizes Klaus Ritter from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution together with Manuela. Since Manuela joined a radical organization in Africa after her kidnapping, she got in direct contact with Jens Osburg, the head of the organization. He came to Hanover with Manu and his colleague Cecile to actually carry out an assassination attempt on Kibala, who is in town to undergo an operation. In order to prevent the attack, the secret service has been on alert for days.

It is clear to Lindholm that Manuela was made to work for the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, otherwise she would not have been released so quickly. Your contacts to the radical group are very valuable to Ritter. Lindholm speaks to him about it, and he admits that he has been hunting Osburg for a long time and is now on the verge of success. He does not allow any radical groups to use liberalism in Germany for their terrorist goals. For Lindholm, her service concept collides with the goals of state security. She wants to solve the murder of Police Superintendent Karl Hegemann at all costs and thus also have clarity about the guilt or innocence of her old friend. She unexpectedly appears at her home and explains to her that she does not want to work against her underground group and that she will not continue to spy for Ritter. She hands over the murder weapon to Lindholm in the hope that she will be able to hold the constitution protection and knights accountable for their machinations. While Manu is with Lindholm, she is under surveillance by both the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Cecile. When the officers notice Cecile, they shoot her so that she cannot betray Manu. Osburg then explains to Manu that he still wants to finish his project. It is also clear to Ritter that Manuela Seehausen has distanced herself from her work in the protection of the constitution.

With the help of the lawyer Manu had indicated when she was arrested, Lindholm finds Manu and Osburg's hiding place in an allotment garden , but there she is overwhelmed and tied up. In order not to endanger their project, Manu and Osburg want to silence the investigator and set the arbor on fire. Since the Office for the Protection of the Constitution monitored Lindholm and listened to their phone calls, they are informed of every step they take, and so Ritter appears and could rescue Lindholm from her predicament before the arbor goes up in flames. But he's only interested in the weapon that Manu Lindholm gave. When he finds the pistol, he disappears again and leaves Lindholm chained, who however manages to free himself and make his way to the hospital to prevent the planned assassination attempt on Kibala. But Ritter and his people had Kibala taken to another hospital to set a trap for the bombers. Ritter shoots Osburg, and when Manu points her gun at the man she takes to be Kibala, she is executed by Ritter's people. In the end, however, Ritter is also led away by Detective Director Bitomsky.

criticism

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: "The exciting thing about this crime thriller is the psychology of the female 'duel', which is fought out in a strong war of looks between Maria Furtwängler and Karoline Eichhorn."

Tilmann P. Gangloff comments on this cinematic and psychologically strong film: “The story of the two lost friends - accompanied by the most original bathtub scene since Müller-Lüdenscheid and Dr. Klöbner - can touch and leads to a furious, albeit tragic, finale. "

At faz.net , Hannes Hintermeier writes about this crime scene that “like so many thrillers […] gets a stencil as soon as he stages the contrast between the criminal police and the secret services. The shadowy nature of the protection of the constitution manifests itself in paper-based dialogues, presented in a statesman's chest tone. [...] He just wants a bit much, this 'crime scene', wants to be a political thriller [and] in-depth knowledge of the female psyche and criticism of globalization. But since director Dror Zahavi concentrates on keeping the pace fast, that doesn't really matter. He also has brilliant actors like Karoline Eichhorn (Manu) and Hansa Czypionka (Ritter). "

Carsten Heidböhmer at Stern.de judges less about the film itself, but deals with the character of Charlotte Lindholm and writes: “In no other 'crime scene' is the investigator so heavily involved in private as in the cases of Charlotte Lindholm. Almost every episode is based on a personal involvement of the investigator in the case. First, she started a liaison with her manager and publicly grieved when he died in the service. Using her example, the television nation saw a commissioner doing her job while pregnant and, in parallel with Ursula von der Leyen's family policy, discussed the compatibility of child and work. When Charlotte Lindholm investigates the area around the atomic transport in Wendland, she is automatically confronted with her environmentally troubled past. And when a terrorist shows up in tranquil Hanover, she ends up straight in her bathtub. "
