Tele 1 is a licensed private television broadcaster in Switzerland for the Central Switzerland region . Until January 2010 the station was called TeleTell . Tele 1 is a member of the Tele Regio Combi .

Since 2018 Tele 1 has been managed by CH Media , a joint venture between the NZZ media group and AZ Medien . CH Media started operations on October 1, 2018. Legally, Tele 1 is still part of the NZZ media group.

In the first half of 2018, the broadcaster had a daily reach of around 53,800 people (or 6.3% of the potential of 0.858 million people) in its license area (people 3+ with guests), and 103,100 people in German-speaking Switzerland (or 2.0% of the potential of 5,186 million people).

  • March 31, 1992: Establishment of Regio Text AG based in Rothenburg .
  • June 4, 1992: Start of broadcasting of a screen newspaper and a teletext service under the name "RegioText". Distribution via the cable networks in Lucerne , Zug , Baar and Lindenberg .
  • October 28, 1994 The screen newspaper merges with the programming of the first local television station in Lucerne, "LTV"
  • Introduction of moving image magazines such as the program “Szenefutter” or “Tell Report”. The program will gradually be launched in different cantons.
  • March 1995: The company name is changed from “RegioText” to “TeleTell”.
  • April 1996: TeleTell extends the distribution in Schwyz, Uri and in the municipality of Meggen.
  • January 1997: The program is also launched in the canton of Obwalden.
  • January 1998: The Aargau publisher Peter Wanner takes over the majority of TeleTell and at the same time establishes a joint operating company under the name TMT Productions AG . In addition to TV in Central Switzerland, this also includes Aargauer TV Tele M1 . The TeleTell program is being expanded considerably with moving images and current news from the region. The programs are initially produced in Rotkreuz.
  • November 1999: Relocation to Lucerne, to Maihofstrasse 76, at the headquarters of the Luzerner Zeitung .
  • January 2000: In Lucerne, own editorial structures with technology, sales and marketing are created. A little more than three years later, the Tele-1 managing director Bruno Hollenweger succeeds Hansruedi Hottiger. Associated with the change is an area expansion in the cable networks over the whole of Central Switzerland. The TeleTell program is followed daily by over 120,000 viewers.
  • August 2003: Start of the new program RegioTalk , a 20-minute talk magazine with personalities from Central Switzerland.
  • January 2004: Television begins to concentrate on its core competency «news from the region» and introduces every half hour. Five video journalists report daily from Central Switzerland.
  • February 2004: TeleTell shows the Lucerne Carnival in full length for the first time, the parade and the monster parade are recorded.
  • September 2004: The new moderated weather broadcast by and with Peter Wick starts.
  • January 2005: The own sports program is launched.
  • February 2005: TeleTell again achieves a record audience for carnival reporting.
  • January 2007: TeleTell undergoes a redesign of its entire website. In the same year, numerous established and new TV broadcasters submitted their entries for the new license for private television programs - including TeleTell for a renewal of their license and LZ Medien with their new TV project "Tele 1".
  • February 2008: TeleTell tops the list of Swiss regional broadcasters with a rating increase of over 366%.
  • October 2008: The Federal Council decides in favor of the license application from Tele 1 AG of LZ Medien, at the expense of the established broadcaster TeleTell. Peter Wanner (AZ Medien) files an objection to the Federal Administrative Court.

  • March 2009: AZ Medien and LZ Medien agree. TeleTell is sold to LZ Medien.
  • April 2009: The LZ Medien take over TeleTell in full with all employees and infrastructure. At the same time, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) grants the 10-year license to Tele 1 AG. The construction work for the new TV in Central Switzerland is in full swing, with 9 months remaining until broadcasting begins. TeleTell will continue to operate in parallel.
  • June 1, 2009: Oliver Kuhn, who previously worked at Ringier , becomes editor-in-chief.
  • February 1, 2010, 6:00 p.m .: Central Swiss television Tele 1 goes on air for the first time with its new news program. With the start, one of the most modern television studios in Europe will be inaugurated in Lucerne. Over 80% of its own programs are produced - including a business program (Perspectives) and a discussion program (Controversy) .
  • May 2010: The first results of the market research are available and give the product very good marks. Tele 1 reaches an average audience of 151,000 people per day.
  • 2011: Central Swiss television can increase its viewership to an average of 155,000 people. For the first time, the Tagwache will also be broadcast live at Carnival, and all special programs relating to Carnival achieved a rating of around half a million viewers, a new record.

  • September 1, 2018: The editorial team of Tele 1 is merged with the editorial team of Radio Pilatus to form a content pool. The editorial team is now working in a team and is preparing topics in a vector-oriented manner. Matthias Oetterli heads the editorial department as Head of the Electronic Media Central Switzerland department.
  • October 1, 2018: CH Media , the joint venture between AZ Medien and NZZ-Mediengruppe, is now running Tele 1. Legally, the station still belongs to the NZZ-Mediengruppe.

Name change

Since February 1st, 2010 TeleTell has been broadcasting under the name and in a new design as Tele 1 . As of April 1, 2009, the new owner of the station was LZ Medien Holding AG, which in autumn 2008 received a license from the Federal Council to operate a local TV station partially financed with reception fees. LZ Medien Holding AG was also the owner of the Luzerner Zeitung and Radio Pilatus . The main owner of LZ Medien Holding AG is the NZZ media group with 85% of the shares. Since October 2018, the station has been managed by CH Media , the joint venture between the NZZ media group and AZ Medien.

Tele 1's programs initially include the regular in-house productions: News, Cinema, Personal, Controversy, Weisch no, Luegsch ?!, Perspektiven, Sport, Unterwegs and Wetter.

There are also special productions (Central Switzerland Carnival and Schwingen), partner productions (lifestyle and animal) as well as advertising and other programs.

Distribution channels

Tele 1's distribution area includes the six cantons of central Switzerland ( Lucerne , Zug , Schwyz , Uri , Obwalden and Nidwalden ), the Aargau districts of Zofingen , Kulm and Muri and the Zurich district of Affoltern . In the distribution area there are 310,100 households with a total of 848,985 people. The technical range of Tele 1 is 95.46%. In the distribution area, Tele 1 is broadcast via cable television . Until February 2013 Tele 1 was also broadcast via DVB-T .

In January 2013, the Federal Council lifted the distribution restriction for regional television programs that had been in effect until then. For this reason, Tele 1 has also been available outside of its coverage area since March 1, 2013 - for the time being in the basic offer of UPC Switzerland and Swisscom TV. Tele 1 can also be received via the Internet world: live via the website of Tele 1 by Media Player - Streaming (at least 100 kB bandwidth, ADSL or Hispeed connection is needed) and Zattoo .

The image and sound material is produced differently: Normal news reports are filmed by the video journalists with the Sony HVR-Z5E . Larger contributions and second broadcasts are realized by cameramen with the Sony PDW-700 or studio productions with the Sony HXC-100 . Commercial productions, on the other hand, are shot with the Canon EOS 5D . The material is cut in HDTV on Grass Valleys Aurora and Edius. The finished programs are then transferred to the playout without tapes and played from there via a playlist file. Supplemented with station logo and Teletext , which are signals via optical fiber of Swisscom passed.
