Texas A&M University – Commerce
The Texas A & M University-Commerce (also TAMU-Commerce called) is a state university in commerce in the northeast of the US state of Texas . With 8,677 students (2005) it is the second largest location of the Texas A&M University System . In addition to her main Commerce campus, she has locations in Dallas and Mesquite .
history
The university was founded in 1889 as East Texas Normal College at Cooper . After the building was destroyed by fire in 1894 , the university was moved to its current location. In 1917 the college was nationalized and renamed East Texas State Normal College . In 1962 , it was granted the right to confer a doctorate and was renamed East Texas State University . When the Texarkana campus was split off in 1996 , it was given its current name.
Sports
The TAMU Commerce sports teams are called the Lions . She is a member of the Lone Star Conference .
