The Black Cat (original title: Il gatto nero ) is an Italian Giallo by Lucio Fulci from the year 1981. The plot is loosely based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story The Black Cat (German title: The black cat ).

action

The photographer Jill Travers investigates a series of mysterious deaths with the police inspector Gorley. The bodies of those killed show scratches from cats. The suspicion falls on the villager Professor Miles, who has the skills to contact ghosts. He can also influence his black cat with his thoughts; he uses them to take revenge on people. Over time, the cat breaks free from the will of the professor and even manages to impose its will on him. When Jill discovers this fact, the professor who is under the influence of his cat tries to kill her and walled her up in his basement. At the last minute, the police can save Jill.

criticism

“A rather untypical horror film for director Lucio Fulci, which uses a story by EA Poe to stage a bloodless variety of his profession; in doing so, he becomes too entangled in nothingness and fails. "
