Claire's son Ty does not accept Isaac's departure and leaves the ship to look for him on Kaylon 1. He accidentally gets into one of the many underground chambers and discovers the remains of billions of humanoid life forms. The Kaylon killed their biological creators, who kept them as slaves, knowing that their robots had developed consciousness and personality over time. Isaac's real mission aboard the Orville was to gather data to determine if the Union's biological life forms were worth keeping alive. Almost a year after the original timeline was changed, the Kaylon have conquered half of the known galaxy. Ed and Gordon survive by gathering supplies on different planets. After barely escaping the Kaylon, their ship is captured by Kelly, who has reunited the Orville officers minus Bortus and Isaac from their original timeline. Kelly explains that she and Ed never married or served aboard the Orville because her memory erasure failed. Claire did not join the crew either, and without her and Isaac's romantic relationship, he never fled to the Union, which resulted in the Kaylon's destruction of the earth. Kelly intends to correct her memory erasure. To repeat the process, Isaac's time travel research must be retrieved from the Orville and a key synthesized protein found that is missing from Kelly's brain. The crew gets the protein from a resistance cell run by Alara and rescues the Orville from the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean . Bortus is found on board after surviving with a minimum of life support after safely evacuating the crew. After the Orville returns to space, John remotely accesses Isaac's memory data with a captured Kaylon body, but reveals the location of the ship. As the Kaylons approach, John overloads the ship's systems to send Claire back in time. This destroys the Orville, but Claire successfully goes back in time and erases Kelly's memories. Claire disappears and Kelly accepts a second date with Ed.
