Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 (Original title: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel ) is a 2015 British film directed by John Madden based on a script by Ol Parker . The film is the sequel to the film Best Exotic Marigold Hotel  (2012). The cinema release in Germany was on April 2, 2015.

Muriel Donnelly and Sonny Kapoor travel to San Diego , California to present hotel tycoon Ty Burley with a business plan for a hotel. They want to open a second hotel in India after the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel . They are told that Burley will have an anonymous hotel tester visit the hotel to get an idea.

Back in Jaipur , India , Evelyn Greenslade is offered a job as a buyer. At 79, however, she is in doubt because the job involves a lot of responsibility and makes it necessary to travel a lot. Douglas Ainslie, who is in love with Evelyn, is also concerned that he will be able to spend less time with her.

Sonny's life takes on another challenge with Sunaina's wedding plans that conflict with his business plans. He also tries desperately to impress the American hotel visitor Guy Chambers, whom he claims to have recognized immediately as the anonymous hotel inspector of the hotel chain. On October 29, 2012, Vulture.com reported that screenwriter Ol Parker had been asked to write a treatment for Fox Searchlight Pictures for the sequel to Best Exotic Marigold Hotel . Most of the cast had already agreed to part 2. On December 2, 2012, Showbiz411 wrote that Colin Firth and Helen Mirren might also be involved, but ultimately it did not materialize. On October 28, 2013, Radio Times announced that Penelope Wilton had confirmed the cast, including Judi Dench , Bill Nighy , Maggie Smith , Ronald Pickup and Celia Imrie . It was also announced that the cast would be flying to India in January 2014 to start filming. On October 30th, Deadline.com reported that Richard Gere was under discussion to join the ensemble. Later, on January 10, 2014, Gere confirmed his role in the film. In addition, were Tamsin Greig and David Strathairn confirmed.
