The Ferenc Gál Theological College , also known as the Ferenc Gál College , (Hungarian: Gál Ferenc Főiskola , Gál Ferenc Hittudományi Főiskola , or GFC for short ) is a non-governmental university with its headquarters on Cathedral Square in Szeged , Hungary .

history

The college was founded by Julius Glattfelder (Hungarian: Gyula Glattfelder), bishop of the Szeged-Csanád diocese , as a college. Studies began in 1930 under Jesuit leadership. With the communist takeover of power in 1950, religious orders were banned and schools were closed. In the early 1970s, underground theological training was rebuilt; from 1983 correspondence courses were allowed to be set up.

With the opening of the East in 1989 and the change of regime, it was again possible to train secular full-time students as theologians and religious teachers. With an affiliation to the Theological Faculty of the Catholic Péter Pázmány University , university degrees were secured and recognized by the Holy See from 1995.

Ferenc Gál , a professor of dogmatics and the first rector of the Péter Pázmány Catholic University from 1992 to 1998 , has been named after Ferenc Gál . The current Grand Chancellor is László Kiss-Rigó ; The rector is Gábor Kozma .

There is a university network with 38 universities through the Erasmus program ; study programs are offered in English, Italian and German.
