Thomas Quinn Jones (* 19th August 1978 in Big Stone Gap , Virginia ) is a former American American football poker players. He played in the National Football League (NFL) running back position from 2000 to 2011 .

Childhood and youth

Thomas was born in Big Stone Gap , Virginia, as one of seven children. His brother Julius Jones was also a football player in the NFL.

He went to school in his hometown and learned football there. In 1996, an article was dedicated to Thomas in Sports Illustrated for the Faces in the Crowd series .

college

Jones attended the University of Virginia , where he played football for the college team from 1996 to 1999. Meanwhile, he broke several records at the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He finished college with eight conference and fifteen team records. In 1999 he was named All-American by the Associated Press , Football News , Football Writers Association of America , Walter Camp Foundation, and The Sporting News . In the election for the Heisman Trophy 1999 he was eighth. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology while in college .

NFL

Arizona Cardinals

Thomas Jones selected as the seventh player by the Arizona Cardinals in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft . In the three seasons with Arizona he ran 1,264 yards and nine touchdowns . He often had injury problems and was able to play in every game in just one season. Jones was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003 .

In Tampa Bay, Jones played an injury-free season in which he ran 627 yards and three touchdowns.

Chicago Bears

2004 obliged the Chicago Bears the free agent Jones, who signed a multi-year contract. In his first season with the Bears, he ran 948 yards and seven touchdowns. In his second season, he ran 1,335 yards and nine touchdowns. On July 27, 2006, Jones injured his thigh . Following the injury, he fought against Cedric Benson for the role of first running back, which he ultimately won. Jones signed a two-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on March 9, 2010 . In the 15th week of the 2010 season , he reached 10,000 yards. He was the 25th player in NFL history to do so.

Trivia

Jones announced that after his death he plans to donate his brain to the Sports Legacy Institute, which studies the relationship between exercise and brain injuries. 2015 Jones had in the series Being Mary Jane radio station BET a guest appearance.
