Thomas Maos
Thomas Maos (* 1964 in Neckarsulm ) is a German- Cypriot guitarist , performer , experimental musician and composer .
Live and act
During his civil service and psychology studies (1984-89) at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , Maos earned his first money as a musician by dubbing advertising films (including Shimano , Grundig , Ernst Klett Verlag ), performing with various rock / pop bands and taking guitar lessons. From 1989 to 1993 he had guitar lessons with Albert Mayer-Mikosch in Tübingen; During this time Maos also gained studio experience as a session musician a . a. for Alex Köberlein of the band Grachmusikoff ( Sonnemond 1993 ).
From 1990 to 1996 he organized and directed the workshop stage NIET ( New Improviser Ensemble Tübingen ) in the Tübingen Club Voltaire with international guests from freely improvised music a. a. with Ulrike Helmholz , Gino Robair , Ingeborg Poffet , Helmut Bieler-Wendt , Uli Sobotta and Günther Heinz . At the same time he founded the rock band DEAD POETS with the singer-songwriter Paco Steinmann with Jörg Honecker (bass) and Ralf Wettemann (drums). In the following years the formation played around 800 concerts in Germany, Switzerland and France. The debut album Das Gele (BMG-Ariola) produced by Sandi Strmljan in 1996 received a lot of attention in the German music press. In 1996 Maos completed the pop course , a contact course for popular music at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
In the following years Maos moved increasingly in different project-oriented work between serious and popular music . In 1999 Thomas Maos founded the international festival Creative Arts and Music Project (CAMP) together with cellist and media artist Fried Dähn . Since then, the festival has taken place on invitation at various locations (2005 Montemor - Lisbon, 2007 WKV Stuttgart - funded by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes , 2010 HfG Karlsruhe , 2009 the festival celebrated its tenth anniversary in the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart ).
In addition to numerous solo appearances, Maos works with musicians such as the Americans Elliott Sharp , Saadet Türköz , Joseph Klammer and Mark Kysela as well as actors, visual artists, visual artists and dancers. In 2013 Maos appeared with the formation BRAINS at Zappanale . Since 2015 he has been guitarist and arranger for the band Lucie M. and the Tribunal des Escargots , which released their debut album Kreuzweise in 2017 .
He teaches as a guitar teacher and band coach at the Jamclub Tübingen music school. Together with his wife Birgit Riegger, who designs the website and CD cover, and their two children, he has lived and worked in Tübingen since 1990 .
