Timothy Gabriel "Tim" Stapleton (born July 19, 1982 in La Grange , Illinois ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with EHC Olten in the National League B since the 2017/18 season .

Career

Tim Stapleton began his career as a hockey player with the Green Bay Gamblers , for which he was active in the United States Hockey League from 2000 to 2002 . He then played for four years for the University of Minnesota Duluth ice hockey team . Towards the end of the 2005/06 season , Stapleton played professional ice hockey for the first time when he was on the ice in both the regular season and the playoffs for the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League . In the summer of 2006, the American received a contract with Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga , for which he played the following two years and with which he was runner-up in 2007.

Before the 2008/09 season , the center returned to North America, where he signed a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League as a free agent . However, apart from four NHL games, he was only used in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies . At the beginning of July 2009 the Toronto Maple Leafs transferred him to the Atlanta Thrashers together with Pavel Kubina in exchange for Garnet Exelby and Colin Stuart .

In July 2012, Stapleton signed a contract with HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League and scored 45 points in 58 KHL games for the club. He then moved within the league to Ak Bars Kazan , where he collected 34 scorer points in 60 KHL games. In July 2014, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement, whereupon the right- wing shooter joined league rivals Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk and was there on the ice at the beginning of the 2014/15 season . In December of the same year, Stapleton was exchanged for Yevgeny Grigorenko from HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk .

Due to the uncertain economic situation in Russia, Stapleton signed a contract with EHC Biel from the highest ice hockey league in Switzerland for the 2015/16 season . After 24 games for EHC Biel, he left the club in November 2015 and was signed by HC Lugano . From August 2016 Stapleton played for Färjestad BK in Sweden, then moved to the KHL at HK Spartak Moscow at the end of November 2016 .

After "two unsatisfactory years", Stapleton signed a contract with EHC Olten in April 2017 for the next season with an option for another.

International

In 2012 Stapleton was nominated for the first time for the US national team and completed the 2012 World Cup with it . At the World Cup a year later , which was held in Stockholm and Helsinki , Stapleton was again a member of the national team and won the bronze medal with this.
