Timo Wenzel (born November 30, 1977 in Neu-Ulm-Burlafingen ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player.

Career as a player

Club career

He began his career at FC Burlafingen and joined VfB Stuttgart in 1994 through the youth department of SSV Ulm 1846 . In 2000 he made his first Bundesliga appearances for the club. After a total of 65 Bundesliga games for the Swabians, the defender switched to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, which was then in danger of relegation, during the winter break in 2003/04 . Wenzel was able to help keep the class despite deducting points. After relegation in 2006, the second division promoted FC Augsburg was his new employer. In two years he played 51 times for the second division. On April 28, 2008, Wenzel signed a contract until 2011 with Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus' first division . After three years, he moved in August 2011 from the Cypriot runner-up and cup winner from Nicosia to the Greek first division club AO Kerkyra . The defender's contract ran until 2013, but in summer 2012 he moved back to Germany for SV Elversberg in the Regionalliga Südwest . After the 2014/15 season, he ended his playing career.

National team

Between 2002 and 2003, Wenzel played alongside players like Timo Hildebrand , Simon Jentzsch , Tim Borowski , Andreas Hinkel , Fabian Ernst and Kevin Kurányi three times in the 2006 team , the DFB's perspective team .

Coaching career

After his career ended, Wenzel moved to the coaching bench. In July 2017, he terminated his contract with SV Elversberg, where he had looked after the U23 team in order to devote himself to further training as a coach and the acquisition of the highest coaching license in the DFB curriculum, the football teacher . In the 2018/19 season he took over the Bavarian regional league team 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 , with whom he finished fourth at the end of the season.
