Top 500 Companies (China)
The list of China's top 500 companies has been published by the China Enterprise Confederation and China Enterprise Directors Association since 2001.
The 2006 list showed that far more companies came from the east than from the west of China, most of the profits came from the petroleum industry, and there were few private companies, compared to the world's leading companies that lagged behind Chinese companies average rate of return of Chinese firms was lower than that of multinational corporations and top Chinese firms were concentrated in the manufacturing industry.
In 2006, Sinopec , State Grid Corporation , CNPC , the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China , China Mobile , China Life , China Southern Power Grid , China Construction Bank , China Telecom and Bank of China were at the top.
In 2010, Sinopec was the front runner for the fifth year in a row, followed by State Grid Corporation , PetroChina , China Mobile , Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China Construction Bank (CCB), People's Insurance Company of China (PICC), China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), China Railway Group and Agricultural Bank of China (ABC).
