from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of the largest companies in Germany provides various surveys for the biggest according to economic indicators companies in Germany represents.

Top 100 by domestic value added ( Monopolies Commission )

This list represents the 100 largest companies in the Federal Republic of Germany according to their domestic added value in 2016. The list is the XXII. Main report (2018) taken from the Monopolies Commission , with which the independent advisory body fulfills its statutory mandate under Section 44 (1) sentence 1 GWB to inform the federal government and the legislative bodies about the concentration of companies in Germany. For the list of the 100 largest companies for the reporting year 2016, the value added of the groups in Germany, ie the value that a company adds to the preliminary products through conversion or creation, is considered. In addition to domestic value added, the business volume and the number of employees in 2016 are also given.

Top 100 according to worldwide sales ( Die Welt newspaper )

This list shows the 100 largest companies in Germany in terms of sales in 2014. The data was collected on the basis of the “Top 500” ranking, which is published annually by the daily newspaper Die Welt . The company data of the "Top 500" ranking was included in the list.

criticism

The "Top 500" ranking of the daily newspaper Die Welt partly takes parent and subsidiary companies within the same group of companies into account. This is problematic if the sales of a subsidiary have already been taken into account in the parent company's ranking through group consolidation. In this regard, the methodology of data collection is definitely questionable, since such double entries impair the informative value of the ranking.

This problem becomes clear with the example of Metro AG and Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH , which are represented in places 8 and 33 in the “Top 500” ranking for 2014. Metro AG holds a majority stake in Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH , so that the revenues of Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH are also taken into account in the consolidated financial statements of the Metro Group. The sales of Metro AG stated in the ranking relate to the consolidated sales of the Metro Group. As a result, the sales of Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH were considered twice in the "Top 500" ranking, namely for Metro AG and Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH itself. Consequently, Media-Saturn-Holding GmbH should not be listed again, if this has already been taken into account in the Metro AG ranking. Further examples of this can be found in the ranking.

Another point of criticism is that the “Top 500” ranking is partially incomplete. The Thüga Holding GmbH & Co. KGaA is undoubtedly one of the largest companies in Germany. In 2014, the Thüga Group achieved sales of € 21.6 billion and would thus be ranked 32nd in the ranking. However, this is not included in the “Top 500” ranking.

Forbes Global 2000

The ranking of the annual Forbes Global 2000 list of the 2000 largest publicly traded companies in the world is calculated from a combination of sales , net income , assets and market value . The placements of the companies in the equally weighted categories were added together to form a rank. The table also shows the headquarters , the industry and the number of employees. The figures are in billion US dollars and relate to the 2016 financial year , for the market value to the stock exchange price in May 2018.
