The list of the largest companies in Vietnam contains the - by various definitions - most important companies in Vietnam .
Largest publicly traded companies (Forbes Global 2000)
The ranking of the Forbes Global 2000 list, published annually by Forbes Magazine , of the 2000 largest publicly traded companies in the world, is calculated from a combination of sales , net income , assets and market value . The placements of the companies in the equally weighted categories are added together to form a rank. This calculation method prefers debt- intensive sectors such as banks, which are therefore also in the top places in the case of Vietnam. The table also shows the headquarters , the number of employees and the industry . The figures are in billion US dollars and relate to the 2019 financial year , for the market value to the stock exchange price in May 2020.

Largest publicly traded companies (Forbes Vietnam Top 100)
At the end of 2019, the Vietnamese regional edition of Forbes magazine for the first time compiled a list of the hundred largest publicly traded companies in the country, with the ranking criteria corresponding to those of the Global 2000 list. In some cases, parent companies and subsidiaries are taken into account within the same group of companies. The majority of the companies are still majority-owned by the state . As a rule, the company's shares are listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange , and more rarely on the Hanoi Stock Exchange .

Because many of the major listed companies - especially in the sectors of finance and energy - are majority owned by the government or government-related major investors and are not or only partially tradable, weighted index creators like MSCI and FTSE usually after the free float - market capitalization , so the Market value that is available for free trading.

Largest companies by turnover (VNR 500)
Vietnam Report , the business portal of the state-run online newspaper VietNamNet , publishes the VNR500 ranking of the 500 largest companies in the country annually. This list also includes unlisted companies (including wholly-owned state-owned companies) and subsidiaries of foreign corporations. The ranking is based on the Fortune 500 model, i.e. based on total sales for the past fiscal year.
