Trofeo EFE
The Trofeo EFE has been awarded annually since the 1990/91 season by the EFE news agency for the best Latin American or Ibero-American football player in the Primera División in Spain . The record winner (5) is the Argentine Lionel Messi , followed by the Chilean Iván Zamorano and the Brazilian Ronaldo (2 each).
The former Argentine player Fernando Redondo , who played for CD Tenerife (1990–1994) and Real Madrid (1995–2000), received the special award for the best player of the years 1990–2000 ( mejor jugador iberoamericano de la década de 1990 ) . In 2016/17 Real Madrid received the special award for the best Ibero-American club. The Uruguayan Edison Cavani , who plays for Paris Saint-Germain , was the only player outside of the Spanish Primera División to receive the award in 2017/18.
