Onze d'or is an award given by the French specialist magazine Onze Mondial , which annually recognizes the best football player to play in Europe .

The prize has been awarded since 1976, and since 1991 there has also been an award for Trainer of the Year. The record title holder among the players is Lionel Messi with four awards followed by Michel Platini , Zinédine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo , who have each received three awards. Arsène Wenger dominates the coaches with four awards ahead of Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola , who have won three times.

On the occasion of the 20th edition of the election, a special election was held in 1995, in which the best player was selected from among the previous titleholders. Michel Platini clearly won this election with 74% of all votes, ahead of Marco van Basten , who received 10% of the votes. Diego Maradona , Roberto Baggio and Romário followed with five, four and three percent of the vote .
