The Troppberg is 542  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the northern Vienna Woods . It is located in the Lower Austrian market towns of Gablitz and Tullnerbach .

Location and character of the mountain

The summit of the Troppberg is just southwest of the Wienerwald main ridge , upstream in the direction of Purkersdorf, the summit point being about 120 m from the Tullnerbach municipal boundary in the Gablitz area.

The group lying southwest of the elevation is also called Troppberg; it belongs to the municipality of Tullnerbach.

Towers

The mountain is best known for its observation towers . As early as 1870, the "Schönerungsverein Purkersdorf" built the 11 m high stone Troppbergwarte, which is still available today, at the highest point of the mountain, from which the view was increasingly restricted due to tall trees. In 1962 a higher concrete column was built next to the old control room as a new Troppbergwarte with a viewing platform at a height of 20 m. But it had to be torn down again in 1991 after less than 30 years. In the same year, the 50 m high Troppberg radio tower with a viewing platform at a height of 24 m was built. This offers a wide panorama that encompasses most of the northern Vienna Woods and parts of the urban area of Vienna and, in good conditions, extends to the Schneeberg and the Ötscher .

Ascent routes

The Troppberg is "a classic Vienna Woods excursion destination"; Marked hiking trails lead up to it from all directions . The shortest ascent from the Wienerwaldhof (the former Waldgasthof Rieger ) in the west takes about 30 minutes. The paths from the town of Purkersdorf and the market town of Tullnerbach on the old western railway line are popular ; they each require around 1½ to 2 hours of walking.

The Purkersdorf - Göttweig section of the Austrian Way of St. James has been running over the Troppberg since 2011 .
