Place name

Until around 1890, the names Ober Tullnerbach and Hinter Tullnerbach were used for the rear part around today's Wundererplatz . The front part between Erlschachen and Brettwieserstraße by the former monastery is known as Unter Tullnerbach and later as Vorder Tullnerbach .

The name Irenental appears in the Franzisco-Josephinische Landesaufnahme recorded in 1872 at the entrance to the valley, although the origin is unclear. The name does not appear for the wider valley until 1880.

Early history and the Middle Ages

In the Tirlitzgrube at Heimbuchsteg near Troppberg a barrow field from the Roman Limes period was found. The 16 burial mounds (15 in ensemble, one apart) are under monument protection .

The Franciscan monastery of Sancta Maria in Paradyso was built on Riederberg around 1460 . The single-nave late Gothic church was dedicated to the Mother of God and St.  Laurence and was rebuilt after a fire in 1509. On September 26, 1529, the monastery and church were destroyed by the Turks , killing 18 monastery friars. Neither has been rebuilt. The remains of the ruins are also listed.
