The Kurfürstenstraße underground station is a station on the Berlin underground lines U1 and U3 . It is located on the border between the Berlin districts of Tiergarten ( Mitte district ) and Schöneberg ( Tempelhof-Schöneberg district ) under the Kurfürstenstraße that gives it its name . It is listed as a Kus in the BVG station directory.

The neighboring stations are 520 meters ( Nollendorfplatz ) and 885 meters ( Gleisdreieck ) away. The Bülowstraße underground station of the U2 is about 230 m south.

The barrier-free expansion of the train station, including an elevator, should be completed by the end of 2018 . It should now be completed by the end of 2020.

History and structure

The station was opened on October 24, 1926 as part of the so-called relief line, which at the time was supposed to accommodate traffic flows on the heavily frequented western trunk line between Gleisdreieck and Wittenbergplatz . Its central platform can only be reached by stairs, so it is not barrier-free . There are outputs at both ends. During the construction, a tunnel was also created under Potsdamer Strasse so that it could be safely crossed.

During the renovation in the 1980s, the originally gray-purple wall cladding was replaced by tiles in bright pastel shades.

particularities

Subway route through a residential building on Dennewitzstrasse

The eastern exit of the station is followed by a ramp that rises through the backyards of some apartment blocks and finally through the second floor of a residential building on Dennewitzstrasse ( 52 ° 29 ′ 58.6 ″  N , 13 ° 22 ′ 12.4 ″  E ) into one encased road bridge before it crosses the former Potsdam freight yard on further bridges . On the way to the neighboring Gleisdreieck train station, a height difference of 19 meters is overcome.

Connection

The underground station offers transfer options from the U1 and U3 lines to the BVG bus lines .
