The Ubinas district is located in the General Sánchez Cerro Province in the Moquegua region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​880 km². The 2017 census counted 1,877 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3527, in 2007 it was 3725. The district administration is located in the 3376  m high village of Ubinas with 325 inhabitants (as of 2017). Ubinas is located 34 km northeast of the provincial capital Omate .

Geographical location

The Ubinas district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the center of the General Sánchez Cerro province. In the southwest of the district rises the 5672  m high volcano Ubinas . The Río Tambo flows south along the eastern district boundary.

The Ubinas district is bordered by the Matalaque district to the south, the San Juan de Tarucani district ( Arequipa province ) to the west, the Cabanillas district ( San Román province ) to the north and the Ichuña , Yunga , Lloque and Chojata districts to the east .
