The Udhampur District is a district in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir .
The seat of the district administration is the city of the same name Udhampur . The Udhampur district extends over the southern edge of the Pir Panjal north of the city of Jammu and includes part of the upstream Siwalik chains . The Chanab River cuts through the mountains in the northwestern part of the district. The Tawi flows through the southeastern part of the district .
The district has an area of 2380 km² and 554,985 inhabitants (2011 census). In 2001 the population was 459,486. The population density is 233 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The district is divided into 4 tehsils : Chenani, Majalta, Ramnagar and Udhampur.
