United Europe eV is a non-profit association that wants to promote the development of a pro-European awareness, pro-European behavior and understanding between peoples.

history

The association was founded in 2013 by the former Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel and the German entrepreneur Jürgen Großmann . Schüssel was also president of the association until the end of 2019. Other founding members include Daniela Schwarzer , Sylvie Goulard , Roland Berger , Peter Terium , Friedrich Merz , Gavin O'Reilly and Anthony Ruys, former CEO of Heineken . The seat of the association is Hamburg .

target

The aim of the initiative is to strengthen Europe's credibility, to promote international understanding and, above all, to win over the younger generation to the idea of ​​a united, competitive and liberal Europe. The association is non-partisan and does not pursue any individual political or economic interests. It is financed exclusively from membership fees and donations.

United Europe eV organizes lectures, conferences, studies and research projects as well as seminars for outstanding young professionals from all over Europe. At these young professionals seminars, the participants debate topics that are central to Europe's future. So far (as of March 2020) 18 seminars have taken place.

Article series "Europe can do better"

In 2019, the association, together with the business newspaper Handelsblatt , initiated a series of articles in which, for the first time, a total of 30 CEOs of large DAX companies , medium-sized companies and start-ups reflect on the future of the continent and make reform proposals. Under the title “Europe can do it better”, the series of articles will appear from April 15, 2019 until the European elections on working days in the Handelsblatt in German as well as on Handelsblatt Online and the United Europe website in German and English. From the series of articles, a book of the same name was created by Herder Verlag , which was presented to the public on May 6th by CDU chairwoman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as part of a business club event at ESMT Berlin .

The Roman Manifesto

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome , United Europe, in collaboration with Villa Vigoni, presented the Roman Manifesto. It was presented during the official celebrations on March 25th at the German Embassy in Rome. In the manifesto, the authors, a group of young scientists and professionals from Europe, make a far-reaching proposal for the renewal of the European project and the European Union. You propose the establishment of a European Federal Union with more democratic and transparent institutions and clearly defined competencies.

Digitizing Europe Summit

Working in cooperation with the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communication , the European Institute for Innovation and Technology and Deutsche Welle in the form of a network, United Europe, as a partner, helped shape the Digitizing Europe Summit as an event for the digital Europe of the future, at which u. a. Angela Merkel and Tom Enders attended.
