Auf Liebe und Tod is a German television film directed by Judith Kennel and based on a script by Daniel Schwarz and Thomas Schwebel from 2009. It is the fourth episode of the crime series Unter Otherbedingungen with Natalia Wörner in the lead role.

action

Commissioner Jana Winter has to solve the death of the nurse Beate Stein, who was killed with a shot of potassium, which the perpetrator had put right in her heart. Since this requires sound medical knowledge, Jana determines where the victim had worked in the vicinity of the hospital. Quite surprisingly, she meets her au pair girl Frida, who was attacked by three young people last night and is still in shock. The commissioner quickly found out that Beate Stein and her boss, Dr. Michael Eckbert, had a secret relationship. He supposedly has an alibi for the time of the crime.

A first lead leads to the ex-boyfriend of the victim, who behaves suspiciously. Alexander Brochhagen lives in the house opposite, is first lieutenant in the reserve and has been unable to serve since his deployment in Afghanistan . When the investigators want to talk to him, he fled because of his war trauma and can only be caught with great difficulty. During the interrogation, he stated that he had nothing to do with the death of Beate Stein. He only observed a stranger and threatens to find the culprit if the police fail to do so.

This now focuses on Dr. Michael Eckbert, whose alibi is demonstrably incorrect, which has now made him suspicious. However, since he cannot be found in the hospital or at home, a search is on for him. When Eckbert is found, he is standing on a bridge and threatens to kill himself. Jana Winter manages to talk to him so that he breaks off his plan. He is arrested but does not testify. The Commissioner also has doubts because Brochhagen did not bother about Eckbert in any way, even though the threat to find the culprit was meant very seriously. That is why Jana Winter researches further and, with the help of her colleague Christoph, finds out that Karin Reimann, Dr. Michael Eckbert, had a medical education. So she belongs to the group of suspects. When questioned again, she involuntarily reveals herself and is then arrested.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv wrote: “It is the fine ramifications between the main case and the private milieu of the lonely heroine that give the film its unity and tension. A pleasant narrative rhythm and the realistic, atmospheric staging by Judith Kennel do the rest: They elegantly hide the dramaturgical construction, which becomes increasingly transparent towards the end. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm rated: "Realistic, atmospheric North German small-town thriller."

Tilmann P. Gangloff wrote for Kino.de : “Judith Kennel stages the film in a solid but inconspicuous manner. Even the top-class ensemble of the colleagues Winters [...] is a guarantee of high entertainment value: The prominent actors use their few scenes for little stories on the side that give the characters a lot of depth. The case is implemented in an exciting way and remains captivating until the end. "

In Stimme.de Alexander Franck ruled: "Natalia Wörner's son Jacob Lee Seeliger plays the little ones and now has its own short lines of dialogue. The fact that the viewer followed the development of this small television family from the very beginning, when the role was tailor-made for the pregnant actress, certainly accounts for part of the success.
