Ush in Uzhhorod

The Usch ( Ukrainian Уж ; Slovak Uh ; Hungarian Ung ; English transcribed Uzh ; the name goes back to the Old Slavic word ("snake")) is a river in Ukraine and Slovakia .

In German sources, the Hungarian name Ung was used for a long time , as Transcarpathia belonged to Hungary until after the First World War. See also: History of the Carpathian Ukraine .

The length of the river is 133 (other information: 127) kilometers. It rises on the Carpathian watershed between the Lviv Oblast and Transcarpathia on the Ushok Pass and then flows through the western plains of the Transcarpathian Oblast , where the Ljuta and Turja rivers flow to it on the left . The Ush crosses the border with Slovakia near the village of Storoschnyzja (Ukrainian Сторожниця ) near Uzhhorod and flows into the Laborec river after about 21 kilometers at Drahňov ( Michalovce district ) . This in turn flows via Latorica , Bodrog and Tisza into the Danube and thus into the Black Sea .

Between 1919 and 1930 it formed the border river between the territory of Slovakia and the Carpathian Ukraine within Czechoslovakia to the north of Uzhhorod .
