“I joined the ödp because at the beginning of the 90s the slogans for getting out of the foreigners increased, asylum seekers' shelters were on fire, but chains of lights were also formed. The Republicans , however, were very popular. It was time for me to take on political responsibility and I was looking for a quiet, sensitive and tolerant home. I found it in the ödp. Here I identify with my ideas of direct and clean democracy. The ödp is the most consistent of all parties with its own statutory requirement not to accept donations from companies. "

- Uwe Dolata on his ödp membership

At the ödp federal party conference on March 8 and 9, 2003 in Coburg, he lost in a vote against the Munich university professor and deputy ödp federal chairman Klaus Buchner with 68: 120 votes. In his election campaign he advocated long-term concepts for transport, culture and urban development. In order to allow citizens to participate more in decision-making processes, he called for greater transparency in politics and participation of citizens. In the mayor election he reached 3.0%, while he was elected as the sole ödp representative in the city council election that took place at the same time.
