Uwe Oberg (* 1962 in Offenbach am Main ) is a German pianist and composer .

Live and act

Oberg received piano lessons from the age of seven, played popular styles of music and, from the early 1980s, was a self-taught jazz player . Since 1986 he has been a member of the New Jazz / ARTist Wiesbaden cooperative .

His music is improvised . Impressed by free jazz and new music, he developed his piano music; important influences are Thelonious Monk , Paul Bley , Cecil Taylor , Don Pullen , Ran Blake , Alex Schlippenbach , Andrew Hill , the music of Anthony Braxton , the early piano music of John Cage and European improvisation music . He has played in numerous contexts since the 1980s: As a soloist, he spans the arc from the inside piano to Monk's music. With the international quartet ROPE, it's free improvisation. In the Lacy Pool project (with Rudi Mahall and Michael Griener ) he devotes himself to the music of Steve Lacy , and in a duo with Silke Eberhard he plays music that is linked to Paul Bley as well as his own pieces.

Furthermore, he is always looking for improvisational encounters with musicians from different cultures, for example in a duo with Xu Fengxia or in a trio with Saadet Türköz and Urs Leimgruber . He continued to play with Alfred Harth , Peter Kowald , Tony Oxley , Ulrich Phillipp , Jürgen Wuchner , Sven-Åke Johansson , the hr jazz ensemble , Rudi Mahall , Axel Dörner , Heinz Sauer , Ute Jeutter, Rajesh Mehta , Paul Lovens , Carl Ludwig Hübsch , Uli Böttcher , Frank Gratkowski , Paul Rodgers u. v. a. His current projects include the trio Hic sunt leones with Frank Paul Schubert and Günter Baby Sommer and his duo with Evan Parker .

Oberg composes music for theater, dance and literature. As a silent film pianist he is regularly z. B. can be heard in the Deutsches Filmmuseum Frankfurt or in the Caligari-Kino Wiesbaden.

In 2004 he was invited to the Darmstadt-Warsaw / Shared Spaces project at the international summer courses for new music in Darmstadt and the Warsaw Autumn . Since 2000 he has curated the Just Music Festival in Wiesbaden.
