Vengeance - Path of Retribution (Original title: Vengeance: A Love Story ) is an American action thriller from the director Johnny Martin from 2017 with Nicolas Cage in the lead role. It is based on the novel Raped. A love story by Joyce Carol Oates .

After a birthday party, Teena Maguire takes a shortcut through the woods with her daughter Bethie on the way home. They are attacked by the brothers Marvin and Lloyd Frick and their friends Fritz Haaber and Jimmy DeLuca. The men rape Teena in a hut and beat her up. Bethie can hide behind a shelf and has to watch helplessly. After the perpetrators run away, Bethie leaves the hut. Police officer John Dromoor, local hero from Niagara Falls (New York) , finds the distraught girl on a country road with his partner. With their testimony, the perpetrators are arrested.
The evidence seems clear, but the Fricks hire star lawyer Jay Kirkpatrick. In the preliminary hearing he portrays Teena as a prostitute and pulls the audience over to his side. Traumatized by the events, Teena wrestles with the idea of killing herself. John offers her his help.
One day Jimmy kills the Maguire's cat. Behind a bar, he attacks and injures Teena's friend Casey. John is there and shoots Jimmy in cold blood when he pulls a knife. He lures the Frick brothers to Niagara Falls by promising evidence that would incriminate Teena. There, however, he shoots them and throws the bodies down the falls. He placed evidence that suggests that the brothers fled to Canada. He lures Fritz Haaber to a motel. There he forces him to write a suicide note and shoots him so that it looks like suicide.

Filming began on April 21, 2016 in Nagara Falls (New York) and in Atlanta .
The film was released direct-to-video . It was released in Germany on June 7, 2018 on DVD and Blu-ray .

Gregor Torinus from Filmstarts rated the film as "disappointing". He is a "woodcut-like revenge thriller with a very slow pace" and Nicolas Cage seems tired and listless.
