Vera Purtscher (born July 12, 1961 in Thuringia , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian architect and designer living in Switzerland .

Life

Purtscher attended the Bludenz grammar school from 1971 to 1979 . Originally she wanted to become a goldsmith. But she decided to study architecture with the idea of ​​studying painting on the side. From then on, Purtscher studied at the Technical University of Vienna , graduating with a Dipl.-Ing. and passed her civil engineering examination in 1997.
From 2003 to 2013 Purtscher was a member of the University Council of the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck ; of which five years as deputy chairwoman. In the 1990s, Purtscher wrote reviews for the Austrian daily Die Presse and specialist magazines for architecture and design (Home, Bauforum, Möbel - Raum- Design, Perspektiven etc.).

Vera Purtscher is the mother of Johannes Martin Purtscher, her first marriage to the Swiss Andreas Auer since 2015 and lives in Heerbrugg . She is the second of three daughters of Gretl and Martin Purtscher .

Architect

Purtscher began working as an architect in Wilhelm Holzbauer's office . As a freelancer, she wrote sideline architectural criticism in the spectrum of the press in the Construction Forum, in furniture space design and in the perspectives. She curated and designed exhibitions in Austria, the Czech Republic, New York, Chicago and Croatia (e.g. Historical Museum of the City of Vienna, “ The Unbuilt Vienna ”). On the initiative of Purtscher, it was possible to connect those three university training centers for architecture in Vienna ( Vienna University of Technology , Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , University of Applied Arts Vienna ), which previously had no exchange, for joint student promotion activities and exhibitions put. She coordinated the “Dream City Vienna” project under the aegis of the City Councilor for the Future, Bernhard Görg, with the aim of establishing mutual relationships between these three educational institutions, Viennese urban planning and the municipal departments involved and politics (1997–1999 with exhibitions in the Museumsquartier Wien ).

In 1998 Purtscher opened her own architecture studio. Her architectural works include a day-care center for children in Hägelingasse, various conversions of historical buildings, mostly for residential use or medical practices, but also the conversion of Casinos Austria in Bregenz in 2002 and representative villas.

Designer

"Inner fire" in the golden ratio was developed a small Réchaud, which went into production in the 1980s at THE then "design factory" Alessi and remained in the collection for 15 years. Alberto Alessi added the warmer to his "Memory Containers".

In 1990, Purtscher acquired a total of four pieces of the famous avant-garde "round model" cutlery from Josef Hoffmann from the Wiener Werkstätte at the Vienna Dorotheum . Out of disappointment with the lack of ergonomics and functionality , she developed her own cutlery series. The prototyping took a total of seven years until the MoonLashes cutlery series met Purtscher's ideas.

In 2001 she founded an architecture and design company in Switzerland . Your first customer was a chef and restaurateur in Lauterach. Shortly thereafter, the Tantris restaurant in Munich was fitted out . A few years later, at the request of the celebrity chef and in collaboration with Hans Haas , Purtscher developed the Tantris tableware and porcelain series , which was subsequently distributed by Hutschenreuther Hotel and Tafelstern .

In the years 2010-2013 Purtscher developed the SinStella glass series, which in 2015 was used exclusively for one year by Gabriel Kreuther in the Grace Building at Bryant Park in New York in order to be able to make final improvements. The glasses have been publicly sold for the first time since the end of 2016.
