Veronika Maria Bellmann , née Wächter (born November 20, 1960 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ), is a German politician ( CDU ). She has been a directly elected member of the German Bundestag for Central Saxony since 2002 . In addition, she is a member of the conservative Berlin Circle and other associations.

Veronika Bellmann joined the CDU in 1990. From 1990 to 2000 she was a member of the CDU district executive in Freiberg and from 1991 to 1997 the CDU state executive in Saxony . Veronika Bellmann was directly elected to the Bundestag in the 2002 and 2005 elections as a directly elected member of the constituency Freiberg - Middle Ore Mountains District. After the electoral district was dissolved, she was always elected in the Central Saxony Bundestag constituency. In the 2017 Bundestag election , she received 32% of the first votes .

Positions and Criticism

Bellmann called on her party to show a more conservative profile again. In an interview with the magazine Der Selbständig (DS-Magazin) published by the Bund der Selbektiven in January 2008, she urged the Union to oppose when terms such as “right”, “conservative” or “national” were publicly associated with right-wing extremism and nationalism. She is a member of the Berlin Circle in the Union .

In a declaration to the Bundestag on May 12, 2011, Bellmann defended its critical and negative attitude towards financial aid to Greece, Ireland and Portugal and suggested the bankruptcy of the bad credit states. In June 2011 she voted together with Peter Gauweiler and four other members of the CDU / CSU against further billions in aid for Greece. In explanations of vote, MEPs advocate rescheduling Greece with the participation of private creditors .

In May 2012 Bellmann participated in the establishment of an alliance against the ESM . Together with ten other members of the Bundestag from the CDU and FDP , she expressed the view that the euro can only have a future with debtor liability, personal responsibility and a return to the basic principles of the Maastricht Treaty .

On the subject of Islam and Germany, Bellmann spoke in January 2015 to the online edition of the Handelsblatt of an “advancing Islamization ”, which was “due to the demographic situation, the fertility on the one hand and the birth deficit on the other, regardless of ideologization or proselytizing by imams, hate preachers or others ”. In the refugee crisis in Europe in 2015 , she criticized Angela Merkel for her approach and accused her of lack of conception and an “ regulatory oath of disclosure”. In September 2016 she asked the CDU not to rule out a coalition with the alternative for Germany in principle. In a guest article for the Protestant magazine idea in September 2018, she spoke out against Muslim membership in the CDU in general. This also applies to secular, non-practicing Muslims.
