Versbach is a district and at the same time a district of the city of Würzburg with around 7000 inhabitants.
history
Due to its valley location and the high-lying fields, Versbach was once a small, agricultural community. Through the Pleichach , fishing and transportation were further cornerstones for Versbach's early bloom.
Versbach was Christianized with the construction of a church on an old Germanic cult and sacrificial site , the heath .
Because of its rural character and its proximity to Würzburg, the parish village of Versbach became more and more popular with natural scientists and humanities scholars at the Würzburg University . Versbach received its first modern aqueduct in 1903.
Versbach was spared the bombs during the Allied bomber attack on Würzburg on March 16, 1945. In the following daytime raids, however, Versbach was also bombed on March 26, 1945, killing seven residents and damaging 150 houses, and the school built in 1909 was also partially destroyed. In the school year 1947/48, 512 students were taught again in the Versbach school.
In July 1952, the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior approved the use of the coat of arms with the lion's head . Versbach was compulsorily incorporated into Würzburg on January 1, 1978, and in return the city of Würzburg promised a connection to the city via a tram, which has not yet been implemented.
