Victoire Thivisol (born July 6, 1991 ) is a French actress .

Victoire Thivisol was discovered by the French film director Jacques Doillon , who entrusted the then four-year-old with the title role in his feature film Ponette . The drama is about a child of the same age who is confronted with the death of his mother (played by Marie Trintignant ). The mother dies in a car accident caused by her mother, while Ponette escapes with a shock and a broken arm. The girl then fell into deep mourning and, encouraged by her devout aunt, began to hold dialogues with God and to ask him for her mother's return. The film dienst rated it as a sensitive and highly artificial psychological drama, "in which a child is largely viewed from the (camera) point of view of a world that is so difficult to understand, not just for children" , was the premiere of Ponette at the 1996 film festival from Venice . There Doillon's film received multiple awards, including the Coppa Volpi for Victoire Thivisol as best actress, who was able to prevail against such established actors as Julia Roberts ( Michael Collins ) or Isabella Rossellini ( The Funeral ). The decision to award the actor's prize to a five-year-old was already rewarded with whistles from the audience at the awards ceremony by jury president Roman Polański . Although the actors in the jury had just voted for Thivisol and Doillon, who accepted the award in the absence of his leading actress, assured that she would not have been this wonderful actress without her own desire and joy, the youngest Coppa Volpi winner in the History of the Venice Film Festival sparked a debate about the use of child actors in film. So wrote the Süddeutsche Zeitung , two days after the end of the film festival, that Thivisol's award would not really be enjoyed, “because it was more the director's achievement to get a bunch of small, very small children to do so in front of the Camera with this naturalness to give out texts about life and death and what comes after ” .

With the release of Ponette in the cinemas, however, the debate flagged and the Süddeutsche Zeitung praised the film in its review two years later as a "great portrait with a great little leading actress" , while the daily newspaper also took into account Thivisol's natural portrayal and her game compared to the award-winning drama Breaking the Waves by Emily Watson in Lars von Trier's award-winning drama . The range of her emotions is broad and differentiated and she is never too thick. “When she learns of her mother's death, she sticks out her lower lip and fights back tears. If the father says "God has not talked to the living for a long time. He is for the dead, not for us", then the look and posture express an ambivalent emotion between defiance, affection, resignation and a cry for help " , says the film critic Katja Stiegel . Ponette became a hit with critics and audiences and also ran successfully in US cinemas. The New York Times rated Thivisol's performance as "the heart of the film," and she won the 1998 Young Artist Award , while Doillons film won the New York Film Critics Circle's award for best foreign cinema production.

After her successful acting debut, three years would pass before Victoire Thivisol could be seen again in a feature film. In 1999 she acted in a small supporting role in Diane Kurys ' period film The Love Drama of Venice at the side of Juliette Binoche . She repeated the role of Binoche's film daughter a year later in Lasse Hallström's tragicomedy Chocolat, which was nominated several times for the Oscar - a small bite is enough , but here too she was able to play in the ensemble around Judi Dench , Johnny Depp , Alfred Molina , Carrie-Anne Moss and Lena Olin hardly set any acting accents. In the following years, the actress, who grew up in Paris , disappeared from the screen and also declined the offer to take part in a music video for the French rock band Superbus . It was not until 2005 that Thivisol drew attention again as an actress with a small supporting role in the French television film Le Bal des célibataires . Three years later, she took on the lead role of a 15-year-old girl in Emmanuel Saget's feature film Les Grands s'allongent par terre (2008), who goes in search of an unknown father. In the following years he appeared in the short films Tous les chats sont gris (la nuit) (2009, director: Savina Dellicour ) and Le Ventre de Jonas (2010, director: Emmanuel Saget).
