Vidkunn Hveding
Vidkunn Hveding (born March 27, 1921 in Orkdal , Sør-Trøndelag , † May 19, 2001 in Tysfjord ) was a Norwegian politician of the conservative Høyre , who was Minister for Oil and Energy in the Willoch government between 1981 and 1985 .
Life
Engineer, business manager and university professor
Hveding, son of the lecturer Johan Hveding and the teacher Ida Songlid, began studying civil engineering at the Norwegian Technical University (NTH) in Trondheim after attending school in 1940 and graduated in 1946. In 1945 he was chairman of the joint student committee there. From 1946 to 1948 he was assistant engineer and department engineer at the energy company Troms Kraft and then director of the power plant in Bardufoss , before he took over a professorship for hydraulic engineering at the NTH from 1954 to 1956 . He then worked for one year as a consultant for electricity, light and energy management in Ethiopia and for another year from 1957 to 1958 as a project manager for Noreno Brasil in São Paulo .
In 1958, Hveding took over the professorship for hydraulic engineering at the NTH in Trondheim and taught there until 1961. From 1961 to 1963, he was administrative director of the Norwegian Water Resources and Electricity Administration NVE ( Norges Vassdrags- og Elektrisitetsvesen ) and as such was also a member of the Council for Atomic Energy and 1963 Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Norwegian Institute for Water Research NIVA ( Norsk Institutt for Vannforskning ). He then acted as an advisor to the Foundation for Arab Economic Development in Kuwait between 1963 and 1965 .
After his return to Norway, he was Ministerialrat ( Departementsråd ) in the Ministry of Industry ( Industridepartementet ) in 1967 , before he was General Director of the NVE between 1968 and 1975. At the same time he was a member of the State Energy Council from 1968 to 1973 due to this function and a member of the State Oil Council between 1969 and 1975. Between 1968 and 1975 he was also chairman of the Norwegian delegation to the world energy conferences organized by the World Energy Council (WEC). He also acted as vice-chairman of the Polytechnic Association from 1970 to 1972. For his services he was appointed commander of the St. Olav Order in 1972 . In addition, between 1972 and 1974 he was vice-chairman of the advisory board of the state oil company.
He then worked again in Kuwait, from 1975 to 1977 as an advisor to the Industrial Bank of Kuwait . He then took on numerous functions in business and was, among other things, chairman of the supervisory board of the engineering consultancy Norconsult A / S from 1977 to 1981 and chairman of the corporate meetings of the trading company Aspelin-Stormbull Gruppen A / S between 1978 and 1981 . He also served briefly in 1981 as well as Chairman of Norsk Elektrisk & Brown Boveri (NEBB) and the shipping company Den norske Amerikalinje A / S . He was also a freelance technical and economic consultant between 1977 and 1981 and gave lectures. In addition, he was involved in the oil committee of the conservative Høyre from 1978 to 1981, of which he was a member between 1981 and 1983.
Oil and energy ministers as well as advisory activities
On October 14, 1981, Hveding was appointed Minister of State (Prime Minister) Kåre Willoch as Minister of Oil and Energy ( Statsråd, Olje- og Energidepartementet ) in his government and held this ministerial office until his replacement on June 8, 1983 by Kåre Kristiansen von der Kristelig Folkeparti (KrF). In the meantime he was also a member of the Export Council of Norway from 1981 to 1982. In 1982 he was awarded the Kong Olavs 80 års medalje .
After leaving the government, he was chairman of the steering group for energy education in the energy committee of the Nordic Council of Ministers between 1983 and 1985 .
In addition, he worked since 1983 as a consultant to various organizations dealing with electrification in developing countries . In particular, he dealt with cooperation in the energy sector in countries in southern Africa and central Africa . Between 1983 and 1987 he was again Chairman of the Management meetings of the trading company Aspelin-Stormbull Gruppen A / S . In addition, he was again Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board of the State Oil Company between 1984 and 1987 and also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Christiania Bank og Kreditkasse from 1984 to 1990
In 1986 he was awarded the command of the Order of Orange-Nassau . Most recently, from 1993 to 1998, Hveding was the chairman of the advisory board of the PETRDAD Foundation , which aims to develop and implement training programs for managers in oil companies in developing and emerging countries . In 1999 the Norwegian Civil Engineers Association, of which he had been an honorary member since 1985, awarded him their gold medal.
