occupation

Thank you for nothing is a comedy film by the directing duo Stefan Hillebrand and Oliver Paulus from 2013.

action

17-year-old Valentin is paraplegic after a snowboard accident and needs a wheelchair . He rebels against his mother, who takes him from Zurich to a rehabilitation center in Merano ( South Tyrol ), where he is supposed to take part in a theater project for the disabled. At every opportunity he shows his frustration there and at first refuses to participate in the group. Over time, however, he falls in love with the therapist Mira and befriends his roommate Titus and Lukas. Lukas is spastically paralyzed and depends on an electronic communication aid in addition to the wheelchair .

When Valentin learns that Mira is in a relationship with the slimy business administration student Marc, he decides to raid the gas station Marc works at. Lukas and Titus enthusiastically offer themselves as accomplices. The three wheelchair users manage to buy a pistol . When they are harassed by drunk teenagers, Titus fires a shot. Then he withdraws. Valentin and Lukas attack the gas station together and steal some money. Both were sentenced to two and a half years suspended prison sentence. Even Lukas, who is multiple handicapped, is certified to be capable of offenses. In the Bolzano City Theater the theater project comes to an end with the " Hamlet " performance directed by Antonio Viganò.

production

The production made a contribution to inclusion . Instead of a classic script , a sketch was developed with the involvement of the protagonists. The main actors Nikki Rappl and Bastian Wurbs and other actors came from theater groups for the disabled.

The " barrier-free comedy" was released on DVD with an audio version for the visually impaired and with German subtitles for the hearing impaired.

Soundtrack

The theme song Let Jump Baby! and other songs were composed and sung by Rodrigo González from the band " Die Ärzte ". Three songs are from the band " Der Fall Böse ".

criticism

“'Thank you for nothing' doesn't want pity for the disabled. They show that they are cool. As cool as teenagers are, with or without a wheelchair. But there is no more depth than in other Feelgood comedies. "

“There is still a lack of trust in a real self-image of disabled people. In this respect, the film is a fairly accurate representation of a process in which the disabled and the non-disabled still have a long way to go. "
