Volkholz is a western district of Bad Laasphe in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 350 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Volkholz is located in the southern part of the Rothaargebirge at the confluence of the Ahbach coming from the Jägerhain into the upper reaches of the Lahn . To the south of the village are the Glashütte and Welschengeheu settlements , which are regarded as districts of Volkholz.

In addition to the Lahn, Sieg and Eder also arise in the vicinity. Volkholz is around 17 km (as the crow flies ) from the core town of Bad Laasphe .

history

On January 1, 1975, the Sauerland / Paderborn Act (Section 19) incorporated the previously independent community of Volkholz into the city (Bad) Laasphe.

politics

Rolf Hofmann is the mayor of Volkholz.

Infrastructure

The (main) district of Volkholz is located on Landesstraße 719 between Bad Laasphe and Siegen . There are buses of the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Westfalen-Süd .

economy

The village, first mentioned in a document in 1344, is dominated by agriculture and forestry. Another line of business for the residents of the place was and is the iron industry in the neighboring Siegerland . Today tourism is increasing again. The location on the upper reaches of the Lahn and the close proximity to the Rothaarsteig (approx. 1.5 km) especially attracts hikers. The well-developed Lahn cycle path also begins in Volkholz, making the place increasingly popular with cyclists.
