Volkmar Köhler (born May 20, 1930 in Hanover ; † June 6, 2012 in Wolfsburg ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

From June to November 1972 he was Lord Mayor of Wolfsburg and from 1982 to 1989 Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation .

Volkmar Köhler was an honorary citizen of the city of Wolfsburg.

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1949, Köhler studied musicology , German , art history and education at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1956 he received his doctorate here as Dr. phil. with the work of Heinrich Marschner's stage works and a list of the composer's works that were published up to Marschner's death in 1861 . Afterwards, Köhler worked as a lecturer in various adult education institutes. In 1958 he joined Volkswagen AG as an employee , where he was in charge of management training for the VW Group from 1969 to 1982.

Köhler was a member of the Wolfsburg City Council from 1964 to 1976.

From 1972 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1976 to 1980 he was deputy chairman of the Committee for Economic Cooperation and from June 26, 1981 to October 4, 1982 he was chairman of the development policy working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group .

Köhler entered the Bundestag in 1972 , 1976 and 1980 via the Lower Saxony state list and thereafter always as a directly elected member of the Helmstedt -Wolfsburg constituency .
